Balance Transfer FAQs
How do I know if a balance transfer is right for me?
If you have a high-interest credit card racking up debt and want to move this amount to a lower-interest card, consider a balance transfer for debt consolidation. Balance transfers are a helpful tool for anyone able to pay off the balance quickly or at a lower rate to save on interest. By taking advantage of the lower rate, you can put more money towards your credit card payments and pay it off faster.
What happens after the promotional period ends and I haven’t paid my balance in full?
After the promotional 12 months end, the remaining balance on the card will migrate to our standard APR that is applicable on the Ukrainian Selfreliance MI FCU Credit Card.
Will a balance transfer hurt my credit score?
Too many balance transfers can make it appear to creditors that you can’t pay your bills and are just shuffling high-interest debts to lower interest cards without the intention of paying off these balances quickly.
What do I do if I have a payment coming up on my existing credit card?
We recommend that if you have a scheduled payment coming up on the card balance you are transferring that you make that payment to be safe.
Can I transfer the balances from multiple credit cards?
Absolutely! That’s actually a pretty common transaction. If you need help deciding what balances to transfer from what cards we would be happy to help!
Do I close the credit card that I transferred the balance from?
We do not recommend to close out cards that you have been using for a long time as it might affect your credit score.
