When Is The Best Time To Buy A Car?
We get it. Sometimes you just need a new vehicle. Maybe your old one is out of commission, or too unreliable, or maybe it’s just time for an upgrade, and now you’re in the market for a brand new (or almost new) car. However, we also understand that your finances are important to you, and you want to make sure that you’re getting the best deal possible on your exciting new purchase. There are many things you can do to ensure that, and among them is making sure that you’re buying your car at the most opportune time. Here’s a running list of some of the best times to purchase a vehicle.
Make sure that you’re using the holidays to your advantage. Car dealerships often offer lucrative discounts during specific holidays throughout the year. This includes President’s Day, Memorial Day, Black Friday, and New Year’s Eve. You’ll notice that the dealerships will advertise their rates more aggressively during these times, but they’ll also be more interested in negotiating. Consider this when planning your purchase.
This one is less about the technical price of the car and more about the salesperson. Dealerships are generally less busy on weekdays, so it’s a good idea to shop during this time. That way, you’ll be able to get more attention from your salesperson and have more time to negotiate price, terms, etc. You’ll also have an easier time convincing them to agree to your offer when they don’t have five customers waiting behind you.
The End of the Year/Month:
Waiting until the end of the month can be a great decision because the dealership is likely offering its employees incentives and bonuses for sales made during this time. This means that your salesperson will be more likely to cut you a deal in order to meet or exceed their monthly quota. For the same reason, waiting until the end of the year is greatly associated with receiving better discounts on both new and used vehicles. December is considered to be the best month for discounts out of the whole year.
During Our Specials:
USMFCU periodically offers car loan specials throughout the year! Right now we’re offering rates as low as 2.99% for up to 72 months! Learn more about this great offer here. Also, make sure you’re checking usmfcu.org often for new specials and loan rates.
When you’re ready:
Perhaps the most important advice for when to buy a new car, is when you’re truly ready and able to. Nothing pushes you into stressful and unreasonable purchase decisions like being forced to buy a car last-minute. Look over your finances, your budget, and your credit before deciding to make any big purchase. For more information on how to save money, click here.
